The Ford RS200 — developed by Ford Motorsport in collaboration with Ghia and produced from 1984 to 1986 in a limited run of just 200 road-legal examples required for Group B homologation — was powered by a mid-mounted turbocharged 1.8-litre BDT inline-four producing over 450 hp in competition specification, with some development versions exceeding 600 hp, channelled through a sophisticated four-wheel drive system and a purpose-built tubular space frame chassis designed from the outset as a pure rally racing machine. The RS200 competed in the 1986 World Rally Championship season — the final and most tragic season of the Group B era, which was brought to an abrupt end following a series of fatal accidents that claimed the lives of drivers and spectators — making the RS200 one of the last and most technically advanced Group B machines ever to compete at the highest level of world rally.
